Ten minutes before the recruiter calls

What to have ready, what to ask, and how to end the call with a decision you will not regret.

A recruiter call goes better when you run it. Here is how.

Have these in front of you

  • Your CDL and its expiration.
  • Endorsements you hold.
  • Your last three years of employers with dates. Carriers verify them.
  • Anything on your MVR from the last three years. It comes up anyway. Better from you.
  • The job page, with the "ask the recruiter" list.

Ask what the page could not tell you

Our job pages say when the carrier's document does not state something. Those are your questions: home time for your lane, the current experience minimum, the trailer, the start date, and what the first two weeks look like.

Get the money straight

Base rate, which miles, band or flat, bonus tests, what pays on top, deposit, pay day, first check timing. If you are 1099, ask what the carrier needs from your business entity.

Do not decide on the call

A good recruiter does not need an answer today. Ask for the offer in writing, read it that evening, and call back. Drivers who wait past two days do sometimes lose an orientation seat, so decide within a day or two, but not in the moment.

Know what happens after yes

Orientation date and location, DOT physical and drug test, what to bring, whether travel is paid. Write it down. Then we check in with you through your first dispatch.

Ready to look?

Every job here shows pay from the carrier's own document and says what it does not state.
